Woman detained for 3 days for pretending to be pregnant.

A woman has been detained for 3 days to allow the police complete investigations in a case where she has been accused of pretending to be pregnant.

In an affidavit filed in court, Elizabeth Shokau was arrested on September 23, 2021 at about 6:24 in the evening at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after she was found stashing a pillow in her belly to appear pregnant and headed to the labor ward.

The suspect was arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi where Corporal Jackeline Makumba Makumba a police officer attached to Capitol Hill Police station told Court that she wants Musembi to be taken to Mathare Hospital for physiological attachment as recommended by doctors at KNH.

Makumba in her affidavit said that the police are yet to conclude their investigations to ascertain the pregnancy status of the suspect to enable them to prefer appropriate charges.

According to Police sources the woman is married with 3 children.

Makumba stated that she believed Musembi was at the Hospital with the intent to commit the offense of stealing a child.

Musembi was arrested on 23rd September at KNH after she was found with a stashed pillow in her belly to appear pregnant and headed to the labor ward.
