A Nairobi court has approved the extradition of three Kenyan nationals to the United States after allowing an application filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Principal Magistrate P.K. Mutai granted the request, paving the way for Francis Asanyo, Peter Omari and Elvis Obaigwa to be surrendered to U.S. authorities to answer to a series of criminal charges.
The court also endorsed warrants of arrest that had been issued by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division, on November 15, 2023.
According to the extradition request, the three are wanted in the United States over allegations of conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and aiding and abetting.
The proceedings arose from a formal extradition request submitted by the United States through Kenya’s Central Authority, the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice, on February 26, 2026. The request was presented by Jeffrey M. Olson, Associate Director in the Office of International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division.
After examining the request and the accompanying evidence, the DPP concluded that the legal threshold required under Kenya’s extradition laws had been satisfied and moved to court seeking orders to facilitate the extradition.
In its ruling, the court ordered that the three respondents be remanded at Industrial Area Prison pending completion of the extradition process to the United States.
