Meru Senator Mithika Linturi charged with attempted rape

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been charged with attempted rape at milimani law courts.

He appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and denied raping  a middle-aged woman on January 30, 2021.

He was represented by lawyer Dr Muthomi Thiankolu,Gitobu Imanyara,Kennedy Echesa among others.

 Linturi was also charged with committing an indecent act with an adult.

He said the allegations leveled against him were politically instigated, a claim which the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji and the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti denied.

The charges stated that on January 30, 2021 Linturi attempted to have sex with his would-be victim without her consent. The said-incident happened at the Maiyan Villas Hotel in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

“On January 30, 2021, at around the 3 am at Maiyan Villas Hotel, Nanyuki in Laikipia East Sub-County in the Republic of Kenya, intentionally touched the woman without her consent,” reads charge sheet.
