A Kiambu court has detained nine senior Kenya Power employees arrested on Tuesday over their alleged involvement in the countrywide power outages experienced in different parts of the country last week.

They appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Boaz Ombewa who ordered that they be held at Muthaiga Police Station until January 26, when their case will be mentioned.

The suspects, who the prosecution wanted detained for 21 days, are: Raphael Ndolo, Peter Musyoki, Martin Musyoki, Anthony Gathii, Joshua Wasakha, Julis Karani, George Kipkoech, Geoffrey Kipkirui and David Kamau.

Their lawyer Danstan Omari had argued that the suspects were in line of their duty when that accident occured and that holding them for 21 days was a long time time.

“Accidents do occur and we cannot say that it was a terrorism act,”added omari while seeking to have them released.
