Slain MMU student was strangled and hit with a blant object on the head, postmortem revealed.

The postmortem report on the body of the slain Multimedia University student Sylvia kemunto Ayaye has disclosed she was strangled and hit with a blant object on the head.
While producing the report in Montezuma Mona Lisa Funeral Home, government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor and private pathologist Dr Martha Mwangi said the body passe was not intact but was in a bad condition due to decomposition.
He said that there was strangulation marks on the neck, blood clots in the head indication she was hit with a blant object and also an injury on the lower limb,
“There was an evidence there was a struggle. The deceased was strangled,  and there were clear evidence of strangle marks on the neck and blood clotting in the head which is clear evidence that she was hit with a blant object,” Oduor.
The doctor also cleared the air on the rumours which has been spreading on social media that Sylvia was pregnant. On the issue he confirmed that the postmortem confirmed that the cervix was still closed and no pregnancy in her womb.
He also confirmed that Sylvia did not die by drowning as it was alleged by some people in social media.
The family lawyers led by Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui assured the family that they will pursue justice for their daughter citing that they will file a suit against the university to know its role on the security issues of the students,
“We will file a case in court against the university seeking to know its role on the security of the students,” Omari said.
On his part, Wambui said that the incidence happened out of negligence since there were supposed to be security guards who could have responded the commotion where the student was killed in her room and they could have saved her life of Sylvia,
“We are wondering how a student was murdered in her room without a response from the security which was logical that they were supposed to hear the commotion,” Wambui said.
They also appealed the the well-wishers to support the family via M-Pesa pay bill number 8062294 Sylvia Kemunto Ayaye.
The body of missing Multimedia University (MMU) student Sylvia Kemunto was recovered on Wednesday night in a water tank at the rooftop of a hostel within the institution’s compound.
Kemunto, a Mass Communications and Computer Science major, disappeared under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Her mother, Triza Kwamboka, who lives in Kawangware, had sent her upkeep money through a church elder’s phone. When she tried to confirm whether her daughter had received the funds, her calls went unanswered.
Growing concerned, Kemunto’s mother traveled to the university, only to discover that her daughter was missing.
The school management confirmed her absence, prompting the mother to file a report at Langata Police Station, where an Occurrence Book (OB) entry was made.
“She had told me about a young man who was making advances at her. She said she did not like him and I told her to stand firm,” said Kwamboka.
On the day of her disappearance, Kemunto’s roommate had gone to church, leaving her alone in their Block B room, number 90.
Investigations reveal that Kemunto’s boyfriend, Philip Eric Mutinda, a first-year Electrical Engineering student, visited her room around 1pm that day.
Sylvia, a 19-year-old first-year student at Multimedia University, had been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Mutinda her boyfriend has been arrested as the main suspect in the heinous act.
