A middle-aged woman has been charged at a Nairobi court with trafficking narcotic drugs valued at Sh465,000.
Grace Wanjiru Gathii appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki and denied charges of trafficking and possessing bhang.
Woman charged with trafficking bhang
The court heard that Wanjiru trafficked 30 kilograms and 303 rolls of bhang by storing the drugs in her house in Gachui, Nairobi County.
The prosecution told the court that the alleged offence occurred on April 8, 2025.
Wanjiru faces a charge of trafficking narcotic drugs contrary to Section 4(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.
She also faces a second count of being in possession of narcotic drugs.

According to the prosecution, police allegedly found Wanjiru in possession of 30 kilograms and 303 rolls of bhang.
The drugs had an estimated street value of Sh465,000.
The prosecution linked the alleged possession to the same date and location in Gachui area.
Wanjiru denied both charges when she appeared before the magistrate.
Defence seeks lenient bond
Her lawyers asked the court to release her on lenient bond terms, assuring the court that she would comply with any conditions imposed.
“Your honour, I pray the release of the accused person on lenient bond terms, assuring this court she is ready to comply with the rules to be set by this court,” the defence lawyer submitted.
The lawyer told the court that Wanjiru is an unemployed mother of three and has a known place of residence.
The prosecution did not oppose her release on reasonable bond terms.
Woman released on Sh200,000 bond
Magistrate Ondieki released Wanjiru on a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount.
The court also granted her an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000 with one contact person.
The case will be mentioned on April 24, 2025.
