The family of missing blogger Nduangui Kinyagia has publicly spoken out, expressing cautious optimism about the ongoing efforts to locate him.

Speaking to media outside the Milimani Law Court on 1st July 2025, the family of Nduangui Kinyagia through their lawyer, Thuku Wahome, conveyed their satisfaction with the progress made in court so far, emphasizing that their voices have been heard and that the legal process is moving forward.
Despite this, they remain understandably anxious. Wahome explained that today was a key date because the Inspector General (IG) and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were expected to appear before the court with two options: either to produce Nduangui or, failing that, to personally explain why he could not be produced.
In court, the authorities stated they did not currently have Nduangui in custody, citing reasons for his absence. As a result, the case was postponed to Thursday, with a clear directive that the DCI director must attend in person to explain his whereabouts. Wahome described this development as progress, albeit with some delays caused by the back-and-forth.
The family, having had their day in court, remain hopeful. Wahome highlighted that the judge did not make a final ruling but expressed the belief that Nduangui, as a missing person, had not escaped the country and is likely somewhere within reach. The judge had instructed the DCI to come and clarify the situation, reflecting the court’s concern and interest in resolving the case.
For the family, the primary hope is that Nduangui is safe and alive, possibly with authorities or someone who knows where he is. Their focus is on his safety, and they trust that he is alive until proven otherwise.
When asked about allegations against Nduangui, Wahome refused to comment, emphasizing that no charges have been formally brought against him yet. He explained that Nduangui remains a subject of ongoing litigation, and any claims or accusations are yet to be proven in court. Wahome clarified that it is not his place to speak on Nduangui’s behalf regarding any alleged actions; instead, that responsibility lies with Nduangui himself in court, and with the police or DCI if they intend to charge him.
He further stressed that the focus right now is on locating Nduangui. “The best point to stop at right now,” Wahome said, “is that he is missing. Another court, police, or chief investigator should come forward and tell us where he is.” He noted that once his whereabouts are known, the police can then proceed with the next steps whether to pursue charges or clarify their reasons for searching for him.
Regarding claims that Nduangui was last seen with unidentified individuals a woman, a young man, and another woman Wahome responded that those individuals are not part of the family. The family had said Nduangui was accompanied by two or three people, and questioned whether investigations had been conducted to identify them. Wahome emphasized that the police, particularly the head of DCI, need to be transparent about what investigations have been done, what remains pending, and to produce evidence supporting their claims.
He concluded with a plea for transparency: “That’s why we want the DCI, the head of the DCI, to come and tell us this is what we have done, this is what we have not done, and I’m sure.” The family remains hopeful that with greater clarity and accountability from authorities, the case will soon be resolved and Nduangui’s whereabouts revealed.
