Ndia Member of Parliament George Macharia Kariuki, popularly known as GK, has refuted claims that he used public money to support a school.

George Kariuki denies using public funds

Speaking to the media, Kariuki said his move to brand donated school uniforms with his name was meant to indicate where they came from and support the parents.

Kariuki said the donation came from his personal funds and not from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“The uniforms I donated were bought using my own money, not CDF funds,” he clarified.

MP says donation was meant to support parents

The MP said it is the work of a leader to improve the lives of Kenyans.

He added that such acts of kindness should not be used politically.

“The donations have not come from the Government but from my own pocket,” added Kariuki.

Kariuki said he built a multipurpose hall to help parents.

He said he was not marketing himself through the branding but showing where the uniforms had come from.

School visit inspired uniform donation

The MP said he was moved to act after visiting the school to commission a multipurpose hall and a school bus.

“When I visited the school, I found pupils wearing tattered clothes. It really touched me,” Kariuki explained.

Kariuki defends branding of donated uniforms

Kariuki further defended the branding, arguing that it is a common practice even among international aid agencies.

“There is nothing wrong with branding a donation. Even global organizations like UNICEF, World Vision, and Plan International brand their donations,” he stated.

MP dismisses criticism from rivals

Kariuki dismissed criticism from his rivals, terming it baseless.

“This criticism is vague and politically motivated. The real beneficiaries have not complained about the branding,” he added.
