The accused face 12 charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, fraudulent alteration of information, cheating, and money laundering.
Clinic staff accused of falsifying medical claims
The accused individuals are Patrick Kimuyu Kanya, Faith Chepkurui Bii, Steven Okinyi Ojwang, Justine Baraka, Pauline Wanjiru, and Naida Mbeyu.
Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic, based in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, also appears as a corporate accused in the case.
Prosecutors allege that the accused committed the offences between November 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
The prosecution claims that the group altered medical records and submitted false information to obtain payments from the Social Health Authority.
Prosecution outlines alleged fraud scheme
According to the charge sheet, clinic employees allegedly created false patient details and medical records.
The prosecution says the accused inserted fake signatures and inaccurate treatment information into medical claim forms.
Investigators claim the false records made it appear that patients received medical services at the facility.
The prosecution argues that the actions allowed the clinic to receive funds it was not entitled to collect.
Health authority loses more than KSh 2 million
The prosecution alleges that the scheme resulted in the payment of KSh 2,032,680 from the Social Health Authority.
Patrick Kimuyu Kanya and Faith Chepkurui Bii face additional charges related to handling money allegedly obtained through the fraud.
The prosecution claims the funds passed through a Family Bank account before withdrawals through a registered M-Pesa number.
The two accused also face a separate charge involving KSh 30,000.
Prosecutors allege they falsely claimed that a patient, Mary Njeri Njoroge, underwent a caesarean section instead of a normal delivery.
Staff face forgery allegations
Several charges accuse clinic employees of creating false clinical notes and patient records.
The prosecution identified Agnes Chisinde and Lucas Mwamba among patients whose medical documents were allegedly falsified.
The accused also face charges of submitting the alleged fake records to the Social Health Authority’s Chief Executive Officer.
Court proceedings continue
Police arrested the accused individuals without warrants in early October 2025 before presenting them in court.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is handling the case.
The accused will continue facing trial as the prosecution presents evidence to support the allegations.
The case adds to growing scrutiny over suspected fraudulent claims involving healthcare funds in Kenya.
