Kenyan Judiciary has launched the Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) Baseline Policy and associated Policy Framework.
At an event held at Supreme Court of Kenya, Judicial Officers said that the launch is in line with the Constitution of Kenya which provides for the use of alternative forms of dispute resolution mechanisms, including traditional means and this is a major policy to mainstream customary, or traditional, forms of justice in Kenya.
They said that up to 95 percent of disputes in Kenya are resolved through informal means outside the confines of courts and so this is a great first step in expanding the access of state-recognized justice systems.
