Lang’ata MP in hot soup over “Wachawi” remarks against Kisii Community.

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwour alias Jalang’o is in hot soup, after he allegedly insulted the Kisii Community by calling them “Wachawi”.

In a letter dated April 28,2025 from Danstan Omari& Associates,the Kisii Community demand for a public Apology and Cease of defamation.

He is said to have made the remarks on April 27,2025 during his speech at Marani Catholic Church,Kitutu Chache North Constituency,Kisii County and a fundraising event at the said location.

“Your remarks,which were publicly broadcast,included disparaging references to members of Kisii community,referring to them as “Wachawi” and insinuating that they were engaged in practices detrimental to society,”added lawyer Omari and Sam nyamberi in court documents

The lawyers in the letter claims that the use of the term “Wachawi” in reference to a community based on unfounded assumptions constitutes ethnic profiling and discrimination.

They argued that the comments are discriminatory and may incite hatred or violence against the Kisii community,in violation of national and international human rights standards.

They want Jalang’o to apologize and cease from such comments in 48 hours failure to which they will sue him and also report the matter to NCIC.
