Businessman Rajendra Shanghani has told the court that he recorded City debt collector Samuel Brian Yongo Otumba allegedly threatening his life.

Shanghani appeared before Magistrate Peter Mutai, where he presented video recordings that he claims captured Yongo issuing threats against him.

Court hears alleged threat recordings

Shanghani told the court that he recorded Yongo using his iPhone 16 and saved the videos through Facebook Messenger.

He alleged that Yongo called him and warned him not to leave his compound because he was coming for him.

“I recorded Yongo using my iPhone 16 and saved it on Messenger application on Facebook. He called me and told me not to leave my compound as he was coming for me,” Shanghani told the court.

The prosecution played the videos in court as evidence.

Yongo, who is representing himself, questioned Shanghani about the circumstances surrounding the alleged threats.

Business dispute behind allegations

During cross-examination, Yongo asked Shanghani to explain what happened on April 12, 2024, the day he claims the threats and assault occurred.

Shanghani told the court that their conversation initially remained calm before it turned into threats.

He claimed Yongo had requested money from him but failed to return it.

The businessman said he feared for his safety after Yongo allegedly threatened to shoot him.

Yongo faces threat charges

Yongo is facing charges of threatening to kill Shanghani in Parklands, Nairobi.

The prosecution alleges that on April 12, 2024, Yongo issued threats and used abusive language against the businessman.

He also faces charges under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

The prosecution claims Yongo sent threatening WhatsApp messages that caused Shanghani fear of possible violence.

Court grants Yongo bond

The court released Yongo on a KSh200,000 bond with one contact person or an alternative cash bail of KSh100,000.

Yongo is associated with Neptune Credit Management Limited, a company involved in debt recovery services.

The hearing will continue as the court considers evidence from both sides.
