Two charged in the ongoing fake gas scam

Two men have been charged at Milimani Law Courts in the ongoing fake gas scam.

The two Hassan Abdikadir and Michael Gitonga appeared before magistrate Martha Mutuku Virtually and denied that charges.

They were charged that on April 1,2021 at the premises of City Gas East Africa Limited an L.P.G storage and filling facility located along Shimo la Tewa road in Makadara sub county within Nairobi County,jointly with others not before court while using motor vehicle registration no. KCU 082A make Isuzu NKR,they were found dealing with empty LPG cylinders from different companies.

They faced a second count of illegally refilling liquefied petroleum Gas(LPG) Cylinders without the authority from brand owners to fill contrary to the petroleum act 2019 on similar dates and place.

The were charged in the last count with trading and dealing with LPG Cylinders of another licensee for gain without the said licensee’s prior written consent contrary to section 99(1)(m) of the petroleum acts 2019.

Through their lawyer Kabata Mwaura requested the court to grant the accused lenient bond terms.

“I request the court to consider the current economic situation within the country that has been interacted by Corona Virus,”added Kabata

He added that there is economic crisis and most of the businesses are hit hard.

“The suspects are the sole bread winners of their families and urged the court to take cognizant of the same,” added Kabata

They were released on a cash bail of Sh 100,000,
