Government Official charged with over Sh 2M Housing Fraud.

A Government Official and her Co-accused have been charged with Over Sh 2Million Government Houses Fraud.

The two Fredrick Gichuhi and Sheila Kamathi appeared before magistrate Wendy Micheni and denied several counts of conspiracy to defraud against the law.

Sheila is a civil servant.

They were charged that on September 17, 2021 and March 15, 2022, they conspired to defraud Samuel Ngigi Kamau, a sum of Sh 621,000 in pretenses that they would facilitate him to acquire an affordable Government Funded houses located at Park road in Ngara, which were ready for sale under Tenant Purchase Scheme, knowing it was untrue.

They were also charged with defrauding another over Sh 1Million from different people in pretense that they would facilitate them to acquire affordable Government housing in that area.

Through Their Lawyer Warui Maina, the accused pleaded with the court to be released on reasonable bail terms saying that they are of low income.

“Second accused is a civil servant and therefore not a flight risk,” added Lawyer Maina.

He requested the prosecution to furnish them with all the documentary evidence that they intend to rely on.

They were released on Sh 500,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh 200,000 each.
