A Canadian citizen charged with Sh 46 million fraud has been released on Sh 5Million cash bail or a bond of Sh 5Million.
Magistrate Dolphina Alego has also directed Phillip William Knight to deposit his passport in court and two contact persons.
The Canadian who appeared unmoved in court is accused of failing to invest the money for an American businessman in a World Food Programme project.
William Knight is charged with obtaining USD 357,300 from Casey Drew Cian by falsely pretending that he was in a position to invest his money for profit in projects namely World Food Programme and Sunshine Minerals Limited, a fact he knew to be false.
Knight is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 27th September and 26th October 2024 within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud.
In addition, the accused person faces several other charges of forging documents.
According to the charge sheet, on 30th September 2024 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya with intent to defraud Cain of USD 357,300, Knight made a false letter for project number WPP/0100/2023 purporting it to be a genuine letter from United Nations World Food Programme, a fact he knew to be false.
The matter will be mentioned on April 17,2025.
