A middle aged woman has been charged at a Nairobi court with trafficking 30 kilograms and 303 rolls of bhang contrary to Section 4 (a) of narcotic drugs and psychotrophic substance control.
When she appeared before the court,the prosecution informed the court that the offense was committed on April 8, 2025, at Gachui area within Nairobi County.
The accused Grace Wanjiru Gathii is said to have trafficked the said drugs by storing it in her house which has a street value of Sh 465,000.In the second count, Wanjiru was charged with being in possession of Bhang which is contrary to the law.
The court heard that, on the same day and area, Wanjiru was found in possession of 30 kilograms and 303 rolls of the said value.
Sh appeared before the Milimani senior principal magistrate Robinson Ondieki and denied the charges.
The defense lawyers requested the accused to be released on lenient bond terms citing that she will adhere to the rules to be set by the court,
“Your honor, I pray the release of the accused person on lenient bond terms assuring this court she is ready to comply with the rules to be set by this court,” the defense lawyer prayed.
The lawyer further told the court that, the accused person is a mother of three who is unemployed and her place of abode is known.
The prosecution did not oppose her release on reasonable bond terms.
The magistrate released her on bond of Ksh 200,000 with a surety of the same amout with alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000 with one contact person.
The matter will be mentioned on April 24, 2025.
