Businessman charged with Sh 5.9 million fraud in a sugar and rice supply deal released on Sh 200,000 cash bail.

Businessman charged  with Sh 5.9 million fraud in a sugar and rice supply deal released on Sh 200,000 cash bail.

Samuel Karuga Wachiuri is accused of obtaining Sh 5,921,600 from Grace Njeri Irungu by falsely pretending that he was in a position to supply 3000 bags of 50kgs of rice and 250 bags of 50kgs of sugar, a fact he knew to be false.

Wachiuri, 37, is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 6th and 15th May 2025 in Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo.

The prosecution opposed his release on bail on grounds that Wachiuri is a flight risk and likely to interfere with witnesses.
