A suspect accused of stealing Sh999,000 using police uniforms has been detained for 10 days as police continue investigations into the robbery.
Ezekiel Mula Mutuku appeared before the Milimani Law Courts on July 4, 2025, after police arrested him on July 2, 2025.
He faces a robbery with violence charge linked to an incident that happened on June 28, 2025, along Parklands Avenue in Parklands, Westlands Sub-County.
Suspect linked to Parklands robbery
The complainant, Patel Kashyap Kantirhaj, reported the matter at Parklands Police Station.
Patel told police that he withdrew KSh999,000 from I&M Bank before driving along Parklands Avenue.
According to the complaint, suspects followed him in a Toyota Axio after he left the bank.
The suspects later blocked his vehicle along the road.
Suspects allegedly used police uniforms
Patel said two men approached his vehicle after blocking his way.
One of them wore a police uniform, a luminous green reflective jacket, and a police cape peak with a white cover.
The other suspect wore civilian clothes.
The complainant told police that the two men forced him to open the vehicle and searched it.
He also said they showed him an item believed to be a pistol before assaulting him and taking the money.
The suspects escaped with the Sh999,000, which was kept in a brown envelope.
CCTV footage helps police investigations
Police reviewed CCTV footage from I&M Bank along Parklands Avenue during investigations.
The footage allegedly showed the suspects monitoring Patel’s movements before following him from the bank.
Investigators later traced the vehicle used in the robbery to Eldoret Town.
DCI officers from Parklands intercepted the suspect while he travelled in a silver Toyota Axio with four other suspects.
However, the other suspects escaped after abandoning the vehicle.
Police recover suspected robbery items
Officers searched the vehicle and recovered several items.
The recovered items included two reflective plates numbered KDS 042A, a reflective jacket, a cape peak with a white cover, a Techno Camon mobile phone, four ATM cards, a SAMSHE mobile phone, and a national identity card.
Police escorted the suspect, the vehicle, and the recovered items to Parklands Police Station for further investigations.
Suspect to return to court
Investigators believe the vehicle may have been used in other robbery with violence cases within Parklands and Nairobi.
The suspect will appear in court again on July 14, 2025, for further directions.
