Mandera County Speaker Omar Maalim endorsed by Egal clan for 2027 parliamentary bid

Mandera County Assembly Speaker Omar Mohamed Maalim, popularly known as Saala, has received endorsement from the Egal Sharmake family to contest for the Mandera East parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

The endorsement followed consultations among clan elders, who identified Maalim as their preferred candidate for the constituency.

Egal clan backs Omar Maalim’s 2027 bid

Speaking in Nairobi, Egal Sharmake family chairperson Musa Osman Yaro said the clan had chosen Omar Maalim because of his leadership experience and previous service in public office.

Musa said Maalim had demonstrated strong leadership while serving in various positions, including as Mandera County Assembly Speaker and former Mandera East MP.

“We as leaders from the Egal family have endorsed Mr Omar as our next Member of Parliament come 2027. His track record is very clear, having served in various positions,” said Musa.

He urged members of the community to support Maalim’s political ambitions ahead of the elections.

Clan leaders call for unity ahead of 2027 elections

Musa also encouraged the community to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

He praised the President’s engagement with the community and said the administration had shown commitment to addressing their interests.

“As a community, we have endorsed and support President William Ruto for a second term because his interest in the community is significant,” Musa said.

Omar Maalim promises election victory

Omar Maalim thanked clan elders and community members for supporting his political journey.

He expressed confidence that he would win the Mandera East parliamentary race in 2027.

“I want to thank everyone, including our elders, for ensuring that we have had a peaceful process. In 2027, I promise that we will win with a landslide,” said Saala.

The Speaker said his previous experience in leadership would help him serve residents effectively if elected again.

Elders urge support for Mandera Speaker

Sheikh Ali Nur, who spoke on behalf of the elders, asked members of the Egal Sharmake family to unite behind Omar Maalim.

He described Maalim as an experienced leader who had previously represented the constituency in Parliament.

The elders said his current role as Mandera County Assembly Speaker demonstrated his continued commitment to public service.

Omar Maalim’s political background

Omar Maalim served as the first Deputy Governor of Mandera County from 2013 to 2017.

He later became the Member of Parliament for Mandera East constituency.

He currently serves as the Speaker of the Mandera County Assembly.

Other leaders present during the endorsement included Abdikheir Aden Hussein, the Mandera County Director, who called for unity among community members ahead of the 2027 General Election.
