Man arraigned for impersonating senior police superintendent at Nairobi police post

by Faith Karanja

A man identified as Lewis Murai Njuguna has appeared before a Nairobi court facing charges of impersonating a Senior Superintendent of Police.

Njuguna allegedly walked into Green Park Police Post and presented himself to officers on duty as a high-ranking police officer.

Man accused of posing as senior police officer

The accused, who resides in Ndelya, Kiambu County, faces one count of impersonating a police officer.

The prosecution charged him under Section 101(b) of the National Police Service Act.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Parliament Unit is handling the case, with four police officers listed as witnesses.

The witnesses include PC Mathew Kigen, PC Aloyce Opiyo, IP Murang’a, and PC Njogu.

Court hears details of alleged impersonation

According to the charge sheet, the alleged offence occurred on October 13, 2025.

The prosecution claims Njuguna presented himself at the police post as a Senior Superintendent of Police without written approval from the Inspector-General of Police.

The charge sheet states that he pretended to hold the rank despite lacking official authority.

Accused granted KSh 200,000 bond

Police arrested Njuguna without a warrant on the same day as the alleged incident.

Authorities held him for two days before presenting him in court on October 15, 2025.

During the hearing, the prosecution did not object to bail but requested reasonable conditions to ensure Njuguna attends future court sessions.

The magistrate later granted him a KSh 200,000 bond.

Njuguna will remain in custody until he meets the bond requirements.

Police officers to testify in case

The four officers listed as witnesses are expected to provide evidence about their interaction with Njuguna at the police post.

The prosecution must prove that the accused knowingly presented himself as a senior police officer without official authorization.

The case will proceed as the court continues hearing evidence from both sides.
