Former Kesses MP Dr. Swarup Mishra has paid tribute to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a selfless leader whose influence will continue inspiring generations.

Dr. Mishra said Odinga was more than a political leader, describing him as a symbol of democracy, peace, and forgiveness who dedicated his life to public service.

Mishra praises Raila Odinga’s democratic legacy

Speaking after Odinga’s passing, Dr. Mishra said the former Prime Minister played a significant role in Kenya’s political development.

He noted that Odinga fought for multiparty democracy and greater political freedoms, adding that his commitment went beyond personal ambition.

“Raila was not a leader who sought power for its own sake. He fought for democracy, for multipartyism, and for the freedom of all Kenyans,” Mishra said.

According to Mishra, Odinga’s political journey reflected resilience, patience, and dedication to national progress.

Raila remembered for peace and forgiveness

Dr. Mishra highlighted Odinga’s approach to political disagreements, saying the veteran leader maintained respect even when facing strong opposition.

He described Odinga as a leader who avoided personal attacks and promoted dialogue during moments of political tension.

“He never abused anyone, never spoke ill of others. He always chose peace over conflict,” Mishra said.

The former MP said Odinga’s ability to forgive and unite people remained one of his strongest qualities.

Mishra compares Raila to global leaders

Dr. Mishra compared Odinga’s legacy to internationally recognised figures such as South Africa’s Nelson Mandela and America’s Martin Luther King Jr.

He said history would remember Odinga as “the one and only Baba” because of his unique contribution to Kenya’s political landscape.

“In history to come, there will be only one Baba. We don’t know when another like him will come again,” Mishra said.

He added that Odinga’s leadership was built on humility, compassion, and concern for ordinary citizens.

Tribute highlights Raila’s humanitarian side

Beyond politics, Dr. Mishra praised Odinga’s personal acts of kindness and his willingness to support people without seeking recognition.

He said the former Prime Minister believed in love, peace, and forgiveness, placing people’s needs above political interests.

“Baba believed in love, peace, and forgiveness. His heart was for the people, not for power,” Mishra said.

Leaders and Kenyans continue mourning Raila Odinga

Dr. Mishra’s tribute adds to the widespread messages of condolence from leaders, citizens, and institutions across Kenya and beyond.

Many have remembered Odinga as one of Kenya’s most influential statesmen, whose political career shaped national conversations on democracy, governance, and social justice.

His legacy continues to inspire discussions on leadership, unity, and the pursuit of a more inclusive society.
