The decision follows a resolution by the party’s governing body during a meeting held on June 24, 2026.
Daniel Onsomu suspension takes effect
NEDP communicated the decision to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) through a letter dated June 26, 2026.
The party said the Daniel Onsomu suspension took effect immediately after the resolution.
“We write to formally notify your office that the Governing Body of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), at its meeting held on 24th June 2026, resolved to suspend Daniel Mokua Onsomu from the position of Executive Director, effective immediately,” the letter stated.
Party Removes Onsomu as authorised official
NEDP asked the Registrar to remove Onsomu from its records as an authorised official and signatory.
The party said he no longer has authority to represent NEDP, conduct official business, or act on its behalf.
“Consequently, Mr. Onsomu is no longer authorized to represent, act on behalf of, or transact any business in the name of the Party,” the letter stated.
The party also requested the ORPP to update its official records.
NEDP opdates leadership communication
NEDP informed the Registrar that its remaining authorised officials would handle future communication with the office.
The letter carried signatures from Party Chairperson Dr. John Nyamu, Treasurer Nancy Muthami and Founding Member Peterson Maina.
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties acknowledged receipt of the letter on June 26, 2026, with its official stamp.
Suspension comes amid legal challenges
The leadership change comes days after Onsomu failed to appear before the Kibera Chief Magistrate’s Court.
He faces accusations of obtaining more than Ksh2 million through false pretences.
The court later issued warrants for his arrest after he missed the scheduled proceedings.
