Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba reinstated by tribunal

by Faith Karanja

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has reinstated Nominated Senator Gloria Magoma Orwoba after upholding her nomination by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The tribunal delivered the ruling in Nairobi on Thursday, ending weeks of uncertainty over Orwoba’s position in the Senate.

Tribunal confirms Orwoba’s UDA nomination

The dispute started after the UDA Electoral Nomination and Dispute Resolution Committee questioned Orwoba’s nomination.

The complainants argued that the party’s nomination process had irregularities.

However, the tribunal rejected the claims after finding that the nomination followed the law.

The panel ruled that the complaints did not provide enough evidence to cancel Orwoba’s nomination.

Lawyer defends Senator’s position

Lawyer Moses Mabeya represented Orwoba during the case.

He argued that internal party disagreements unfairly targeted his client.

Mabeya told the tribunal that UDA followed all legal requirements during the nomination process.

He said political disputes should not remove a person from office without proof of wrongdoing.

“The tribunal has protected fairness and justice in political representation,” Mabeya said.

Orwoba reacts to tribunal decision

Senator Orwoba welcomed the ruling and thanked her legal team and supporters.

She said the decision restores confidence in institutions that protect justice and fairness.

Orwoba added that she will continue serving Kenyans through her role as a nominated Senator.

“I remain committed to serving the people and delivering my mandate,” she said.

Tribunal highlights importance of due process

The tribunal emphasized the need for political parties to follow proper procedures.

The judges said internal disagreements cannot remove nominees who gain positions through lawful processes.

The three-member panel included Chairperson Desma Nungo, Dr. Adelaide Mbithi, and Hassan Abdi.

The tribunal found that UDA followed the correct process when nominating Orwoba.

Ruling sets direction for party disputes

The decision highlights the importance of fair dispute resolution within political parties.

The tribunal’s ruling also reinforces the role of independent institutions in handling political disagreements.

Senator Orwoba will now continue her duties after the PPDT confirmed the validity of her nomination.
