POLICE CONSTABLE ARRAIGNED IN COURT FOR ASSAULTING CIVILIAN IN KAKAMEGA

A police officer who assaulted a member of public in Kakamega and ended up causing injuries on his body in June was today arrested and arraigned in court.

Police Constable Edwin Makuba who is based at Navakholo Police Station in Kakamega assaulted the civilian in the public at Nambacha market.

The victim filed the complaint and after Director of Public Prosecutions looked into the matter found evidence to warrant prosecutions.

Makuba was arrested today and arraigned before the Kakamega Law Courts for the offence of Assault occasioning actual bodily harm Contrary to Section 251 of the Penal Code.

He was arrested after conclusion of an enquiry by detectives and subsequent approval by the DPP as there was sufficient evidence for his arrest and prosecution.

He has been released on a cash bail of Ksh 20,000. The case will be heard on September 2, 2020 before the Chief Magistrates Court in Kakamega.
