Four Police Constables charged with robbery with violence.

Four Police Constables have been charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 296(2) of the penal code.

Anthony Muvaka Mwanza, Cornelius Stephen Wambua, Tom Omondi Otieno and Kennedy Omondi Odero work under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to the charge sheet, on February 6, at 1345 hours at Nexgen Mall along Mombasa road, Lang’ata, the four robbed Vincent Ochieng Odiembo USD 2,400 and Ksh 40,000 while armed with two AK47 rifles and two Ceska pistols.

It is alleged that just before the robbery, the accused persons used actual violence to Vincent Odiembo.

Through their lawyers, they applied for a lenient bond term on the grounds that their salaries are meagre and they have families depending on them.

” The first accused has been in the police force for 24 years.” Lead defense counsel, Danstan Omari, told Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni.

The court however, turned down the application on the grounds that robbery with violence is a serious offense and the accused persons being police officers, are aware of the consequences of such an offense.

They have been released on a bond of Ksh 500,000 or a cash bail of Ksh 300,000 each.

The pretrial will be on March 3.
