Elijah Omollo appeared before Makadara Law Courts Chief Magistrate Francis Kyambi and denied the charges.
He was accused that on May 16,2022 in Nairobi with intent to defraud,obtained the money from Zeitun Ibrahim Issack by falsely pretending that he was in a position to facilitate her to get a scholarship to study in the United States of America.
Through his lawyer Hassan Nandwa,the accused pleaded with the court to be released on favourable bond terms saying that he is a family man.
‘My client has a wife and kids and therefore not a flight risk,”he added.
The prosecution did not oppose his release on bail but requested the court to order him to release his passport in court since he has dual citizenship.
They said that the lecturer is also an American citizen and therefore a flight risk.
Magistrate Kyambi released him on Sh 300k cash bail and ordered him to deposit his passport in court and only make request formally when he needs it.
