Court suspends Ruto’s Appointments of National Climate Change Council.

The High Court Stops President Ruto appointments of National Climate Change Council.

High Court judge Mugure Thande has granted conservatory Orders stopping formal appointment of new National Climate Change Council, pending the hearing and determination of the application.

Through Lawyer Henry Kurauka, the Petitioners, namely, My. Kenya Network Forum and the Indigenous People National Steering Committee on Climate Change argued that the president offended the Constitution and the National Climate Change Act, 2016.

The Petitioners argue that there was no public participation contrary to Article 10 pf the constitution.

The Petitioners further argue that the impugned appointments are contrary to section 7 Climate Change Act which provides representatives to the council from civil society and marginalized community.

The petition is scheduled for directions on 17th April 2023 for further directions.
