WHX and WHX Labs Nairobi bring solutions to Kenya’s struggling health sector

by Faith Karanja

WHX and WHX Labs Nairobi will host a major healthcare expo at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) from October 6 to 8, 2025.

The event will focus on how Kenya can build the health workforce needed to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

WHX Nairobi to host major healthcare expo

The rebranded WHX Nairobi, formerly Medic East Africa and Medlab East Africa, is expected to attract more than 8,000 attendees.

Organisers also expect over 300 exhibitors, 65 international speakers, and delegations from 20 counties.

Event to address healthcare workforce challenges

According to organisers, Kenya’s health workforce is growing by 3.4% annually, while demand is increasing by 4.7%.

They say this gap threatens the country’s Universal Health Coverage targets.

In addition, a recent KSh38.7 billion budget cut has increased pressure on the healthcare sector.

The organisers believe stronger private sector partnerships and smart investment models can help bridge the gap.

WHX Labs Nairobi to focus on diagnostics

WHX Labs Nairobi will concentrate on the country’s diagnostics and laboratory workforce.

The programme will cover molecular diagnostics and genomics, clinical microbiology and parasitology, and laboratory automation with artificial intelligence.

Leaders to discuss healthcare reforms

The conference will feature several senior government and health leaders.

Confirmed speakers include Deborah Barasa, Mary Muthoni Muriuki, Lee Kinyanjui, Dr. Mazyanga Mazaba, and Beatrice Askul Moe.

They will discuss medical education, rural health workforce incentives, and laboratory science training.

The discussions will align with Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Organisers target stronger partnerships

WHX Nairobi aims to strengthen partnerships between government, investors, donors, startups, and healthcare providers.

Desta Lakew of AMREF Health Africa said healthcare equity requires inclusive leadership and local innovation.

Susan Mang’eni said Kenya continues to embrace outcomes-based financing under programmes such as NYOTA.

Meanwhile, Coleman said the event represents a movement toward African-led healthcare solutions rather than just a trade exhibition.
