Kenya to welcome WHX Nairobi and WHX Labs Nairobi next month

by Faith Karanja

Kenya is set to host WHX Nairobi and WHX Labs Nairobi, a major healthcare event focused on innovation, digital health, laboratory advancements, and universal health coverage.

The three-day event will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders from across Africa and beyond.

WHX Nairobi to showcase healthcare innovation

Formerly known as Medic East Africa and Medlab East Africa, the newly branded events will focus on advancing healthcare and laboratory innovation in East Africa.

Organizers say the event comes at a time when Kenya’s healthcare sector faces growing demand due to population growth and increasing pressure on health systems.

Kenya’s population is projected to exceed 63 million by 2030, creating a higher need for quality healthcare services.

However, the growth of the healthcare workforce has not matched the rising demand, creating challenges for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Event addresses healthcare funding challenges

The healthcare sector has also faced financial pressure following recent budget reductions of Sh38.7 billion.

Organizers say WHX Nairobi will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss sustainable healthcare financing, public-private partnerships, and innovative solutions.

The event has received support from the Ministry of Health, Africa CDC, and endorsement from the Kenya Medical Association.

Global healthcare companies to participate

More than 200 exhibitors are expected to showcase new healthcare technologies and solutions.

Participants will include leading companies such as Roche Kenya, Siemens Healthineers, Randox, Beckman Coulter, and QIAGEN.

The exhibition will highlight developments in areas such as:

  • Diagnostic technology
  • Digital health solutions
  • Clinical care innovations
  • Laboratory equipment

WHX Labs Nairobi focuses on laboratory advancement

WHX Labs Nairobi will focus on improving laboratory services across the region.

The programme will feature discussions on molecular diagnostics, genomics, laboratory automation, and sustainable laboratory management.

Organizers say the sessions aim to address shortages in skilled healthcare workers and improve access to essential diagnostic services.

Healthcare leaders to attend conference

The event will bring together more than 65 international speakers from leading healthcare organizations.

Speakers will include representatives from AMREF Health Africa, Aga Khan University, the International Hospital Federation, and regional laboratory associations.

Desta Lakew, Group Director of Partnerships at AMREF, said the event could help promote healthcare solutions that benefit communities across Africa.

Women leadership and artificial intelligence on agenda

The conference will also explore the role of women in healthcare leadership and the use of artificial intelligence in medical services.

Topics will include:

  • Primary healthcare improvement
  • Women’s leadership in health
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Artificial intelligence in diagnostics
  • Telemedicine

Liberty Kituu of WomenLift Health emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership in creating stronger healthcare systems.

Kenya positions itself as healthcare hub

WHX Nairobi and WHX Labs Nairobi aim to strengthen collaboration between governments, private companies, and healthcare professionals.

The event is expected to support Kenya’s efforts toward universal health coverage and reinforce Nairobi’s position as a healthcare innovation hub in East Africa.

The event will be held in September 2025 at the KICC in Nairobi.
