A city Lawyer, prominent Lawyer Evans Ondieki has condemned politicians who are rebuking Supreme Court Judges after the verdict on presidential election petitions.
“It is very unfair for politicians to abuse Supreme Court Judges who are innocent and have no forum to defend themselves,” added Ondieki.
While speaking to the members of the Media outside Milimani Law Courts, Ondieki said that Judges represent the will of the people and the verdict needs to be respected.
“The Judicial Institution is Independent and has an autonomy of the people, Judges should be respected and not to be scandalized, “He added.
He said that Azimio Political Party Raila Amollo Odinga has no right to abuse the judges who cannot even call a press conference to defend themselves adding that if the verdict had been favorable to him, he could not be abusing them.
This comes few days after Opposition leader Raila Odinga rebuked the Judiciary as he expressed his disappointment with the Supreme Court’s judgment on his presidential petition terming it “judicial thuggery.”
The Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate also threatened to lead a “one million march” to the Judiciary to protest its ruling on the petition.
The ODM party leader was speaking in Mombasa on September 16, 2022 during a luncheon to celebrate the inauguration of the new Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.
On September 6, 2022 Kenya’s Supreme Court upheld the election of Deputy President William Ruto as the country’s fifth president, dismissing petitions to overturn the vote.
“IEBC carried out verification, tallying and declaration of results in accordance with provisions of articles 138 (3) (c) and 138 (10)” Chief Justice Martha Koome said while reading the verdict of the court.
The seven judges of the Supreme Court made a unanimous decision to uphold the election results. The judges are Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Mohamed Ibrahim, Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndung’u, Isaac Lenaola and William Ouko.
