A family in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County have penned down an emotional tribute of their relative who was murdered 15 years ago.
Lawyer Daniel Wachira Karani was murdered in the night of July 29, 2005 and though he was known in judiciary and Law Society of Kenya (LSK) realms, the murder case was interfered with.
The family published a touching tribute in the Daily Nation and bravely faulting the judiciary and LSK for betraying Karani.
According to the slain’s wife Rose Wanjiru, Karani was handling a land case before his brutal murder.
Shocking is how the judiciary handled the case and unfortunately Karani’s colleagues in LSK looked the other way.
According to the family, the case was postponed for more than 10 times and finally dropped because a doctor handling the DNA could not be traced.
The tribute in this year’s anniversary read;
“Dear Wachira 15 years ago today you were snatched from us Painfully. Life has not been easy without you but God has been on our side. We notice that you did so many Pro bona cases for orphans and widows in different courts. You truly are a hero. We celebrate you”.
It went on; “Take note that the judiciary failed you big time, in fact it betrayed you. Your murder case could not get a judgement because a ‘Doctor” could not be traced for DNA evidence”.
“The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) too. Did you say you had appointed for us a Family Lawyer?” it concluded.
The case has been gathering dust at Kerugoya Law courts.
Wanjiru in a past interview said the death still torments her and sometime back she was threatened over the tribute in the media.
She said she received calls from people saying they were from LSK and wanted more details about the matter.
In 2019’s tribute the family highlighted some interesting details that read;
“In fact, the mention of Civil Suit No.87 of 2004 in the Principal Magistrate’s Court scares even the bravest,”.
