A JKIA court will tomorrow rule on whether it will continue with the case in which five suspects have been arraigned over murder of late Hon. Charles Were.
This is after defense lawyers led by Danstan Omari,Cliff Ombeta,Shadrack Wambui and Stanley Kinyanjui Strongly opposed the prosecution to continue with that matter in that court.
The Matter that is before Principle Magistrate Irene Gichobi,involves Ebel Ochieng alias Dave Calo who is also a member Board of Directors Lake Basin Development Authority, Edwin Oduor Odhiambo, Dennis Sewell Manyasi, Allan Ogola Omondi and Walter Owino Awino.
Defense lawyers said that court lacks jurisdiction since the incident occurred around Kilimani area and ought to proceed at Milimani or Kibera courts.
The ODPP in their application to detain the suspects, are claiming that Hon. Were was shot dead while driving his car at the city mortuary roundabout along valley road in Nairobi on April 30, 2025 and that the five suspects are persons of interest in the alleged assassination.
DCI further says that brief interviews of the suspects have revealed that they might have crucial information that could unravel the murder of the deceased and lead to further arrests.
Further, DCI says that during the arrest of Edwin Oduor and Dennis Sewe, two pistols and nine rounds of ammunition, a bag and footwear matching the description of those worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the incident were recovered from Edwin .
Prosecution insists that JKIA court has a jurisdiction since the matter is still under investigation.
