
Two members of Cabinet in the government of Uhuru Kenyatta hails from Kigumo division in Murang’a county.
The two are Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia and Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Education Zack Kinuthia.
Interestingly their home villages are about 11 kilometres apart.
Macharia hails from a vibrant Gachocho village while Kinuthia who is former chairman of Student Organisation of Nairobi University is from Gatitu, a sleepy village which shot to prominence after he was appointed the CAS by President in January this year.
This later facilitated Kenyatta’s rise to Prime Minister and later founding President of the independent Kenya.
Kenyattas rewarded the area and besides the cabinet posts, some high-profile individuals in the government hails from Kigumo.
Macharia served as CS since Uhuru ascended to power in 2013. He has been CS for Health and Transport.
Kinuthia was vocal supporter of Uhuru administration during the 2017 elections and afterwards when the region started criticizing Uhuru.
Macharia, a UK-trained Accountant worked in Zambia as Managing Director of African banking Corporation and later working in same capacity in Tanzania.
He was also Group Managing Director with NIC Bank before he was appointed.
