A company director accused of defrauding over 1000 people of millions pretending that he was in a position to pay a return on investment on greenhouses has been charged.
Peter Wangai Muriithi appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku and denied the charges.
The court was informed that on June 28,2019 and January 3,2020 at Goldenscape greenhouse Ltd offices at Kimathi House within Nairobi County with intent to defraud, obtained from Edith Kinya Gitonga a total of Sh 700,000 for 2 greenhouses by falsely pretending that you were in position to pay her Sh 275,000 a return on investment on each greenhouse after every six months, a fact he knew to be false.
In the second count Wangai was charged with obtaining Sh 1,840,000 for 4 green houses by falsely pretending that he was in a position to pay his Sh 275,000 a return on investment on each greenhouse after every six months, a fact he knew to be false.
In the third count, the court was informed that on diverse dates between February 8,2019 and June 15,2019 at Goldenscape greenhouses limited offices at Kimathi House within Nairobi County with intent to defraud ,obtained from Alice Waithira a total of Kenyan shillings one million nine hundred and ninety four thousands Sh 1,994,000 for green houses by falsely pretending that he was in a position to pay her Sh 275,000 a return on investment on each greenhouse after every six months, a fact he knew to be false.
He faced 18 more counts of obtaining money by false pretenses against the law.
The accused was released on Sh 5 Million or a bond of Sh 2 million.
He was ordered to deposit his passport and Identity Card in court.
