A murder suspect has been detained for five days waiting for the mental assessment report.
Denis Ndubi is being investigated over disappearance of two people where one was found dead.
In a miscellaneous application filed in court, Ndubi is said to have pretended that his wife was sick and needed assistance where the two men accompanied him and never came back.
He is said to have gone to the house of the missing person Joshua Gichuki on February 3,2020 and said that he needed help because his wife was sick, it was around 7.30 PM.
Gichuki is said to have introduced Ndubi as a neighbor who was residing within the neighborhood.
They then left using Toyota succeed motor vehicle that belong to the missing person Gichuki.
Investigation Officer says that Gichuki never returned home and his mobile phone has been off since then.
In the application for detention, Juma says that efforts by the wife Christine Njoki to search for him within the neighborhood was futile as no person with the description of the suspect lived there.
It is reported that there was no sick woman who had been taken to hospital on the material date.
On February 4,2020, DCIO Kiambaa received information about the said motor vehicle Toyota succeed having been abandoned at a car wash in Ruaka along Limuru road near Roseline Riveria.
Another Man Ben Anyira disappeared in similar manner and his wife reported the same. The body of Anyira was discovered at city Mortuary by the family who later leant that it was collected at Ngubi forest along Kamandura-Mai Mahiu road.
Denis Ndubi is said to be holding information that can help trace missing person Gichuki Mwangi together with his accomplices.
Ndubi was arrested in Busia County on July 5,2020 and brought to Nairobi on July 6,2020 and he has been detained pending the conclusion of investigations.
The court was informed that after the investigations were completed the file was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) who has recommended that the suspect be charged with murder at the high court.
Investigation Officer Lucas Juma who appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi said that before he plead to charges, the suspect need to undergo mental through mental assessment process and the report tabled to court.
“We request the court to detain the suspect for few days to allow us to conduct mental assessment procedure before plea taking, “said Juma.
Juma added that the accused is a flight risk and may escape if released on bond. He added that if the suspect will be charged, they will oppose bail.
On the other hand, the suspect pleaded with the court to be released on bond saying that he will co-ordinate with the prosecution and will be available when required.
Magistrate Ochoi granted the prosecution five days to complete Mental Assessment process and directed that the suspect be remanded.
