Noordin Haji, the Director of Public Prosecutions has responded to Transparency International (TI) Kenya after the Organization revoked his 2019 leadership integrity award.
According to Haji through his advocates led by Danstan Omari, the Leadership Integrity Award (State/Public Officer) that was awarded to him was as a committee decision and not a unilateral decision as has occurred through the letter by TI Kenya dated 23rd May 2023.
He further submitted that other candidates were also shortlisted and vetted for the same award and a proper decision was reached to award him with the award.
“Therefore, we are requesting that you furnish us with the minutes of the meeting held by the committee/board which made the decision to withdraw the Leadership Integrity Award (State/Public Officer) that was awarded to Mr. Noordin Haji in 2019.” reads the letter to TI.
This request according to Haji is in accordance with Article 35 of the Constitution of Kenya which guarantees him right to Access to information.
“In addition, Mr. Noordin Haji’s constitutional rights to fair administrative action and fair hearing asexpressed in Articles 47and 50 of the constitution of Kenya 2010 have been grossly undermined by your unilateral decision to withdraw the Leadership Integrity Award (State/Public Officer) that was awarded to Mr. Noordin Haji.” proceeded the letter.
Mr. Noordin Haji claims he was not given an opportunity to defend himself before the executive director made the unilateral decision to withdraw the Leadership Integrity Award.
Haji accuses the executive director for harboring a personal vendetta against him and have decided to settle it by unilaterally withdrawing the said award which was awarded to him, in a bid to taint and interfere with his recent nomination as the next Director General of the National Intelligence Service of Kenya.
