Edgar Mokamba, a police constable at Nyari Police Patrol Base is expected to plead to charges tomorrow.

His lawyer Danstan Omari said that Mokamba is very apologetic because he fired the bullet unintentionally.

“We will be seeking to have the charge to be reduced from murder to manslaughter because the accused is very remorseful,” said  Omari.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the officer who was armed with an AK47 rifle had been deployed as a station guard.

Mokamba is said to have been chewing miraa with his friend but hours later, shots were heard and an officer in-charge rushed to the scene.

The body of the victim was discovered at the driver’s seat of his Toyota Probox.

In November, another police officer was arrested after shooting dead his colleague during a confrontation at Gathambi Coffee Factory in Kirinyaga County.

According to Ndia sub-county police boss Joseph Mwika, the two police officers – who are based at Ndiriti Police Station – were guarding the factory when they got into a heated argument.

Two security guards – Patrick Karani and Gerald Muriithi – who witnessed the incident said the argument between the officers began when one of them, who was drunk, was harassing and pestering the other.

The guards said the slain police officer also doubled up as a pastor in a local church.
