A man identified as Lewis Murai Njuguna was presented in a Nairobi court on Wednesday, facing charges of impersonating a Senior Superintendent of Police. The supposed offence took place at the Green Park Police Post, where he reportedly walked in and presented himself to officers on duty as a bigh ranking officer.
The accused, Lewis Murai Njuguna, who resides in Ndelya, Kiambu County, was arraigned on a single count of impersonating a police officer. The charge is contrary to Section 101(b) of the National Police Service Act. The prosecution is being conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Parliament unit, with four officers listed as witnesses: PC Mathew Kigen, PC Aloyce Opiyo, IP Murang’a, and PC Njogu.
According to the charge sheet seen by this publication, the alleged crime occurred on Monday, the 13th of October 2025. The court document states that Njuguna “without the written authority of the Inspector General pretended to be a police officer and presented himself to officers on duty at the said police post as a Senior Superintendent of Police.”
The sequence of events outlined in the filing shows that Njuguna was arrested without a warrant on the same day as the alleged incident. He was held in custody for two days before his apprehension report was filed in court on the 15th of October 2025, which was also the date of his arraignment.
During the hearing, the prosecution didn’t oppose bail outright but pushed for meaningful conditions that would ensure the accused’s attendance for subsequent hearings. The presiding magistrate considered the submissions and set a bond of KSh 200,000. The accused will remain in custody until the bond terms are fulfilled.
The four police officers listed as witnesses are expected to testify in future hearings, detailing their interactions with the accused and the circumstances that led to his exposure and subsequent arrest. The prosecution will be tasked with proving beyond a reasonable doubt that Njuguna knowingly and intentionally pretended to be a senior officer without any form of official authorization.
For now, the case hangs on a KSh 200,000 bond and the suspect’s next day in court, where the four officers who witnessed his performance will take the stand.
